You haven’t yet gone to a "George Enescu" Festival concert? That means you’ve deprived yourself of some memorable moments. The stories around this festival will be long talked about all across town, the city vibrates with international musicians crowding the downtown area, and you’re sure to be frustrated if you do not go.

Not to worry, though, as the Festival is generously spread throughout September this year, with an end date of September 20th. Let me enumerate the agenda of the festival’s last days: I recommend you consider the concerts at Sala Palatului on September 16th (The London Philharmonic led by Cristian Mandeal will play Enescu, Beethoven, Wagner and Stravinski), September 18th (sir Neville Marriner is leading Filarmonica "George Enescu" in a show where the highlight is undoubtedly on Rachmaninov: Concerto for piano and orchestra no. 2 in C minor, played by Dan Grigore; the rest of the show, Enescu and Glinka is not bad at all, either), 19th and 20th of September ( Kurt Massur leading Orchestre National de France will delight us with Brahms and Franck the first night and Enescu, Debussy and Ravel on the last). All concerts start at 7:30pm and, as far as my experience went, you can still find tickets.

But don’t take my word for it. Check out the festival's website and pick something from the tempting array of concerts. The „George Enescu” Festival takes place every two years and it’s one of those events which, if you are in Bucharest, yousimply cannot afford to miss. The novelty surrounding this edition is that the events take place in Iasi, Cluj and Timisoara, as well. Therefore, if you happen to not be in Bucharest but in one of those other cities, you are under the same sweet musical obligation. And not only; this festival certainly goes beyond Romanian borders. The other day I met a sweet Romanian woman traveling from New York just for the Festival. I was impressed! To come half way around the world for a classical music festival is a rare occasion these days.
The event has so far had a tremendous success, the auditoriums are overflowing and the enthusiasm is contagious. The „George Enescu” Festival is becoming more and more a privilege, and we certainly indulge in it..
