Perfume is something abstract, but the Chanel fragrances leave an impression which, most would argue, is almost visible. First, there was “No 5”, created in 1921, to define the aesthetic style of Coco Chanel. This liquid gold was the first fragrance in history to be labeled with a designer’s name. The masculine, smooth, art deco bottle found a home in New York’s MOMA in 1959. The subtle mix of jasmine, rose, ylang ylang and sandalwood continue to captivate mind and spirit alike. Year after year, Chanel No 5 is the best sold fragrance, as it is crowned to be the surest gift to impress and be liked.

Other essences created by Chanel noses include No 22, No 19 (named after Coco’s birthday, August 19th), and a hard-to-find trio named Rue Cambon Collection, sold exclusively at Chanel boutiques: Gardenia (1925), Bois des Iles (1926), and Cuir de Russie (1927). The predominant notes are floral (tuberose, jasmine, lily of the valley, iris and white lilies), but don’t expect to be able to distinguish something very clearly: the ambiguity of the Chanel fragrances is the very weapon used in enslaving those around.

The perfumes of the new generation, the blockbusters Cristalle, Chance, Allure, Coco, and Coco Mademoiselle—are all examples of Coco’s philosophy: “Perfume is the unseen but unforgettable fashion accessory”.
I continue quoting her: “Fashion is not all about clothes. Fashion is in the air, on the wings of the wind. It’s intuitive. It’s on the sky and on the streets.” With these thoughts, infuse your loved ones with waves of freshness, energy and delicious restlessness. They will radiate and vibrate under the fragrances’ influence, and you, in turn, will fall prey to the sweet luxury of a Chanel fragrance, for years on end.
