It’s hard to keep away from the topic of «fashion», especially now that the past month has the world's catwalks monopolized by it. Why would we, in Bucharest, be any different?... So we saw what

, Varvatos and Alexandre Herchcovitch showed in New York. We sort of skipped London and Milan, but worry not… we’ll get to them soon. But since Paris is going on right now, our pick is Dries Van Noten.
His story goes something like this: in the beginning of the 90’s, he and a clan of five other Belgian designers woke up one day and decided to take on the fashion scene. Their avant-garde creations revolutionized the prêt a porter world by their wearability and comfort; the same is true today. The clothes have found their way into the closets of the connoisseurs, and lately, there were cases of violence amongst clients who were fighting to get the new arrivals off the hangers and bring them to the till. Some French designers are now eclipsed by these Belgians, so you better start practicing your pronunciation: Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Dirk Bikkemberg, Walter van Beirendonck, Dirk van Saene and Marina Yee.
Dries (as all in-the-know refer to him) showed his collection yesterday. The reactions were mixed, due mainly to the show’s sober look. Well... hello! It’s Fall 2005, not Spring, not Summer, nor Resort…
I personally saw enough romance and embroidery, balanced by bohemian themes combined with a doze of androgynous ambiguity; and that was just perfect for the collection to be furthest from cliché. Some hints of shiny lamé, layers of falling velvet, and beautiful long, Gypsy skirts brought an original and refined character to the show. I was pleased.
There’s a long way until Fall, so in the interim check out what Dries did for Spring/Summer 2005:

The Fall collection will probably be added soon, so check back if you think you’re a match.
PS-Oh, and… “Salut from Paris!”
