Some of us who think that
Milan,
Paris and
New York fashion shows are for the snobbish crowd, get our trend threads from the hipster shows in Barcelona and Berlin, aka
BREAD&Butter. Here’s some trend radar communiqués for us who shop at
H2O, and who fly over slopes or sidewalk edges.
Lee Cooper, Levi’s, and Diesel showed the happy combo of fashion and music, primarily inspired by the ’70s and the ’80s punk revival. What ruled was black denim, skinny jeans (tucked into cowboy or fur boots), icon and logo pins on multipocket jackets, leather and fur jackets, t-shirts and sneakers with graphic drawings, iPod holders, crucifix necklaces, copper chains, mesh scarves with coin attachments, leather covered buttons, and hand-stitched embellishments. And speaking about coin attachements, the new kitsch icons to put in charm bracelets and necklaces are Disney characters and the Russian matrioshka doll.
Fornarina, DKNY, Puma and Religion balanced fragile beauty and assertiveness, maintaining femininity and toughness in equal measure. Handpainted flowers and rainbows sat next to water sprayed prints that give a cool, dirty finish to the look. Some of the other print techniques included felt appliqué, raised silicon, glow-in-the-dark, gold foil, embroidery and gradient prints. While a military-inspired palette of black and green khaki dominated, warm shades of aubergine, red wine, pink and orange were also highly visible and usually mixed with horizontal and vertical graphics, flowers and abstract patterns.
