This is no history lesson on Transylvanian kings. This is an introduction into the artsy leathery world of today’s Matei Corvin, shoes and accessory designer cum laude.
He fits the “PSST!” profile of hot, unique, undiscovered and underground, and, once you’ll know of him, you can try to resist him. We couldn’t.
He works in an atelier showcasing fine leathers and unique designs, under the roof that housed his skill and talent for a few years now. He nurtured his own network of material suppliers. His creativity is fueled by careful study of trade publications and by an atypical sensitivity to shapes, textures, colors and comfort. This sensitivity can only gain real contours if you met him, as well as touched and felt his creations.
The way to approach him is to call and set up an appointment. When you see him, you will probably rub elbows with Anna Lesko or A.G. Weinberger. Be sure to bring a picture of what you want made, be it an elaborate pair of boots or an intricate belt. From the time you go for your first fitting, it will take an average of 10-12 days for you to enjoy the final product. Once you’re wearing Matei Corvin’s designs, you can rest assured that a 6 month guarantee comes with your purchase and that your treasures can be serviced by the man himself upon making a call.
So let yourself get carried away, go to his workshop and review his designs, clone your favorite shoes if you must, and know that you are in danger of developing a fetish for all the artist with the name of a king has touched and made.
