America, the
beautiful, has been dressed by names like
Ralph
Lauren,
Donna Karan, and
Calvin Klein, and we, from
Europe,
have no problem blurting out these names when talking international
fashion.
But life moves on, designers evolve, and new ones become famous practically
overnight.
Marc Jacobs is no obscure name anymore, and neither
is
Michael Kors. A native New Yorker with a care-free approach to
luxury, Kors does easy clothing, comfy tailoring, quality fabrics and
natural hues… always in an impeccably chic ensemble.
So how does he manage? Well… let’s see: take Long Island refinement,
schooling at
Fashion Institute of Technology, and polishing as
designer for
Celine
. What we get is his own line which he started since 1981, and women who love
his uncompromising devotion to the best silk, cashmere
and wool, in clean designs with class, lady-like sophistication
(read “huge pearls on almost any look”) that’s always free of
ridicule.
For Spring 2006 his vision was riding the prairie horizons, and
combining the relaxed and vacation-like air of
Texas,
Out of
Africa
and desert lands. Translation: safari shirts, big scarves wrapped around as
dresses or skirts, boleros and cropped pants. Click

look.
