Travel season is supposedly starting. We say "supposedly" because, in reality, everyone is always either just returning from a short trip or getting ready to steal a few days away. Right… But that’s great! Because it doesn’t matter which type you are, you’ll always need a good travel guide to rely on or to study and appear as if you’ve been everywhere.
There’s plenty to choose from and the bookstores are full of colorful stashes of maps, guides, travel journals and what-nots. In the myriad of materials, however, there is only one winner, only one that’s the absolute best in information, layout, text, and… why not, logical presentation of content. Meet the
DK Travel Guides.
And, just like anything that’s unique in the world, get acquainted with their sign of distinction: an eye.
“An eye”, meaning that there are pretty, colorful images correlated with the texts. Meaning that they’ve been “there” and they’ve done “that”. Meaning that they (DK) tell us thousands of words through the pictures in the guides. The pages are glossy, a pleasure to touch and look at. The information is structured nicely to include sections of the country or the city featured. The maps are detailed and they include little sketches of the points of interest so that we can identify them faster. The metros, when available, are also mapped. There’s also information on what to taste, where to stay, where to shop, what to ask and what to refrain from saying, a ranking of top walks, top luxury or budget hotels, and all kinds of trivia that makes the culture easier to grasp.
I have a collection of these guides and they’re my best friends; I could try hard to explain how indispensable they are, but I liked how they described themselves: “they show you what other guides tell you”. So go on, enjoy, and be an eyewitness to the world.
DK Travel Guides are available in English and/or Romanian in Carturesti, Diverta and most of the bigger bookstores. As you travel, check out airport or regular bookstores, as well.
