Breaking the Da Vinci code was pretty challenging. Getting into Harvard is probably just as hard, so is having an appointment with
Eliza Petrescu, or climbing the Everest. The list could go on and on, but I would also add getting inside
aSmallWorld.
Good Lord, it's tough! I heard about this Masonic-like network a few years ago. Since the time I heard of it until now, I moved from a country to another, I started a few businesses, the US attacked Iraq, I lost and replaced my US passport, I conquered the streets of Bucharest with my car named JLO, but one thing I just could not do was join
aSmallWorld. Almost nobody knew of it, and the very few who were “in”, did not have invitation privileges.
But luck struck me and since “I'm in”, I understand what the hype is all about, and figured that a few of you might also want to know.
In order to get in you have to know people who know loads of important people, and be pretty good (well, ok... “Champion level”) at networking. And not just any networking; I mean international networking. If you fall in this category, sooner rather than later you'll run into someone who's a member on aSW and who could invite you for the benefit of the community. Should such an opportunity fall upon you, seize it, run with it, and cherish it.
Being a member exposes you to all kinds of business prospects, points of view of people who network globally, travel tips, and just... interesting life insights. In the very short time I've been a member I managed to get tips on Paris clubbing, sell a piece of land to a guy from Israel, and receive a warm welcome from a jetsetter in Barcelona; all while conversing intelligently on various other topics, such as: where would a Greek artist settle and exhibit her art while living in Bucharest.
You might say: “oh, well, I can get that without all the fuss plus the feeling that I have to perform to some extreme to belong in there”. Great, and that's OK; but then you won't ever know what you're missing.
