A torrid Timisoara, with difficulties to breathe and no precipitation, an even hotter temperature than Bucharest at the same time... at least this is how the weather man indicates my day is going to unfold. My brain gets busy imagining escape scenarios in faraway places, where a breeze caresses and see-through waters mirror a perfect sky. This is pretty much the only mental projection meant to help me ignore the 40C terror in which I dive after coming out of an air-conditioned retreat.
However, that's not really so. The river banks have surprisingly reserved a little wonder for me, a place where you can dock while swimming in a sea of heat, surrounded by magic decor and secret cooling techniques, all in an elegant and sophisticated setting.

An open air lounge and terrace, River Deck shadows you with white winding fabrics, while discretely allowing you to get blue sky and pale green tree top glimpses. At the same time, white couches and multicolored beds designed by an expert at lazy lounging on summer evenings, are the best invitation to absolute relaxation.

The same interior design genie has managed to build an imaginary frontier between the dining area and the conversation lounge. Only for me to insist on conquering it and requesting the waiter that my melon and coconut milk lunch (yes, the Asian fusion menu dictates that it is lunch!) is served at my couch, together with a frozen melon daiquiri.
Amazing!

But the magic does not stop here. To fully savor the River Deck experience at a 20C temperature, while the "outside" is burning at 40C, the owners have called on a sensational cooling device that pulverizes cold vapors over the entire area, with a programmed frequency.

So until you reach those exotic lands, a stop at River Deck is a unique experience which I recommend for slow enjoyment. Although my preference for more vegetation makes me think that the mirage of this location would have climaxed, I barely removed myself from there and only pressed by a departing flight which brought me back to Bucharest.
