We believe in love, we believe in passion, and we believe in orgasms; we’re also convinced about a secret link between the above mentioned euphoric states and sweets. And since we’re all adults, we’ve given up on being silly and pretending we consume sweets by the milligram. Therefore, for those of us who indulge in serious sweetness of the homemade kind, here’s a heavenly destination: La Vatra Ardealului, in Brasov.
A stone throw away from Piata Sfatului and three doors down from Bella Muzica, this gem of a cofetaria has established its reputation all across the country. The cakes are a paradox: while busy with fruit, whip cream, chocolate, colorful glazes, nuts and syrups, they effortlessly remain light and fluffy. The dazzling cookies, cakes and tarts have earned accolades for freshness, quality, and heavenly tastes without exotic ingredients or overly sophisticated aesthetics. The recipes unite classic world champions (meringue, tiramisu, kataif, amandine, savarine, eclaires, fruit tarts) with original inventions (“Deliciu”- a chocolate sponge base with layers of homemade whip cream and topped with a syrupy mix of fruits, “Nuts&Vanilla Cream cake”-no description necessary, “Bomba de ciocolata”-a hard chunk of chocolate, mixed in with orange peel, biscuits and dry fruits). The cofetaria has a lodge feel to it, thus being an inviting place to sit and savor your dessert, while observing the fans who leave with huge bags of nicely wrapped treasures.
And yes, Valentine’s Day is coming.
