Just watch Like Water for Chocolate and Chocolat and you’ll get beautiful illustrative examples of the world’s obsession for food and chocolate. If that thought gets you in the mood and you think that you’ve got nowhere to go to quench that appetite, then you don’t know something we do.
If you are in Bucharest, you now have access to supernaturally buttery croissants, homemade breads, sumptuous desserts, and an interesting menu, which is hands down… very, very good.
The name of the place?
None other than… Chocolat!

Behind the restaurant concept that emulates the international Le Pain Quotidien, there’s Theo, a gentle-mannered, unassuming yet undeniably gifted chef who learned the tricks and trade of Belgian patisserie.

Light and airy as a farmhouse, the restaurant's simple decor and pine furnishings radiate rustic ambience. The menu features salads (13,5RON), soups and the house-specialty tartines (9,5RON open-face sandwiches), combining Belgian and French accents with
some traditional Romanian fair. Thus, you can have a quick salam de Sibiu tartine, a cottage cheese/raddish/dill spread, a nicoise salad or a broccoli omelet, and end it with Forret Noirs, éclaires,
crème brûlée, or with anything else your heart desires. The sweets are beyond description, and so we won’t even try; you just have to take a look at the vitrine and try to resist. Keep in mind that you can also buy almost everything to go.

The coffee is Illy (it means “fantastic”), the lemonade rich in lemon bits, the staff is attentive and looks professional in their chocolate shirts. Theo is always in sight, either watching the tables or bringing more cakes out of the kitchen. Soon, he’ll also be bringing out chairs for the terrace which is supposed to happen right outside the resto.

Having said all this, once again it’s proven that the Old Center is the “in place”! How long have we been pleading for it?
