The spectrum of “let’s grab lunch” is wide and colorful, IF you work by Universitate or Dorobanti, that is. But what if you’re stranded somewhere where the cabbie needs to consult dusty maps and ask his buddies through the wire? Then you either bring your lunch from home, hope to be in a building with vending machines, or drive to the nearest rotisserie to get a greasy meal, right? No, don’t get your hopes too high up thinking we’ll deliver your soup by a helicopter now, but read on, nonetheless.
We found and tested a great lunch place around Piata Victoriei. Toscana is on the same block with Gregory’s and Spring Time, and if you don’t want to eat in there, it also delivers to areas around that location.
Choose from a wide variety of interesting gourmet sandwiches and salads, and try to resist the temptation that the dessert counter has on display. Our favorite sandwich there has to be ordered like this:
-black bread with seeds OR rye toast
-tuna salad
-olives
-hard boiled egg
-lettuce
-tomato
-pickles
-pepper
It’s got no name, but the recipe is that of the pan bagnat, a favorite NIÇOISE specialty. As for the desserts, you can be fancy and get the “mousse chocolate” or be traditional and taste Romanian famous “amandina”. Bon appetite!
