Romanians and the Italians... they will forever be linked. What? You don’t think so? Just try to count the Italian restos in this country, or the brands that the fashionistas try to flaunt every chance they get: you’ll get the love vibe between the two cultures. Oh, and how about the classic:
Q: “What’s your background?”
A: “I’m Romanian!”
A: “Oh, cool, you’re from Rome”.
Which nicely brings me to... Trattoria Roma. Just follow the old saying that “all roads lead to Rome, and you can get yourself another top pick Italian restaurant. What’s different about this one is not the pizza menu, nor the pasta with sauces (although people rave about the tagliatelle carbonara here); it’s the fish and seafood. I bet the owners are part of a subterraneous network of super fresh fish, because every time we eat at Roma, it seems like the fish wasted no time between the ocean, Roma’s kitchen, and our plate. That’s something to appreciate regardless of the city you’re in.

The tuna and the sword fish always rise and flip to meet expectations, but you’ll rapidly be climbing the peaks of culinary excitement if you choose the dorada alla sale. However, don’t have those before trying an appetizer: carpaccio with melon or insalata de polpo, perfectly seasoned and tangy with a vinaigrette dressing. If you’re in the mood for something light and fun, go with the risotto alla pescadora; it’s “fun” because the seafood is all pink in hue and the fresh parsley adds just enough green to the plate to encourage your fork to happily poke at an octopus leg and a shrimp’s curvaceous body. The tiramisu rivals the one at Casa di David, so don’t make the mistake of adhering to the Montignac diet the evening of your Roma visit.
Another forte of this lovely place is the atmosphere: a mixture of yellow light, floor-to-ceiling windows and wooden floors, rustic wall finish, and an unpretentious table setting complete the perfect dining experience. Sip on a glass of Terra Romana Rose, lay back on your chair... and you might notice a particular painting hanging on the wall adjacent to the kitchen: white horses galloping out of seafoam. Kitchy? Maybe. But perfection is to be found there, although your finger will have trouble pointing at the exact aspect of it. Enjoy it! And you better call for a reservation ahead of time, or else you risk being left knocking on Roma’s doors.
