Somewhere between “mission impossible” and “as good as it gets” lies the reality of international cuisine in Romania. I'm sure the statistics and the experts would agree with me if I ventured to say that about 90% of that international cuisine is Italian.
But I want Indian! So does my friend who always steals exotic recipes from people and places, so does my boyfriend who's into experimenting sensuality in all its forms, and so does my business partner who's from the UK.
We go to Barka (not truly because of the Indian food), and we go to Taj (and wished their notion of decour was more in tune with the concept), but why can't we have it all?
Karishma
says you can.
And after intense and obsessive visits there, we also agree.
Besides going to great lengths to transform the building into an interesting cavernous resto with wood and green glass accents, the owners added authentic metal food recipients, nets that cover the ceilings, and elephants that smile at you from above. The lighting is perfect, the menu satisfying for vegans and carnivores alike, and the masala tea is fragrant and enchanting.
Start with the vegetable samosa, and if you want to wipe your brow, add the minty spicy sauce on top. If not, the yellow lentil soup makes a great dip, as well as a hearty starter over rice.
For main courses the variety of chicken and lamb dishes is great, ranging from Chicken Madras (a Southern Indian secret recipe of the chef) to Keema Matar (lamb with green peas in a thick curry sauce). There is choice in the rice section, so you can venture away from the plain white rice. In fact, after this dining experience you'll be anything but plain. Maybe you'll be a little ticked off with the slow service, but such delights are meant to be savored slowly and until the last bite anyway, let alone the fact that the staff makes up for it by being super friendly and extremely polite.
So now you have more choice. And a good source of spice, for whenever you might need it.
Karishma
won't disappoint you.
