What would you say if the New Year started with a flooding in the middle of the night, and it ended with you coming home to a burglared house? That would be a pretty crappy year altogether, wouldn’t you say? However, if you’re Romanian, then you’re part of a rather optimist nation, and were that scenario to apply to you, then you’d probably burry the unlucky year in statements and declarations at the Police station, and you would probably start to pick up the pieces and put back together your poor house. All this while hoping this coming year will be a better one.

At night, you might discover that your apartment door, in the happy event that you still have one that shuts, it most certainly cannot be locked. In case you had a wooden one, it is precisely at that moment that you will know that a metal door with a heavy lock would have been a better security device.

The next day you embark on a journey of finding a replacement door, a journey filled with chatter with imagined experts and specialists, which every Romanian has a duty to personify. You feel the need for some professional advice, but you discover that all the fliers, brochures and hand-outs that stuff your mailbox have mysteriously disappeared. Worry not! Bricostore, Praktiker and the stores on Valea Cascadelor are there for you, as to put an end to another session of night watching by your entrance for yet another night. While you ask, and ask, and ask, there’s a certain key word that keeps coming up: “Mottura”.
